THE PRAYER OF MANOAH

Text:Judges 13:8
“Then Manoah prayed to the Lord, and said, “O my Lord, please let the Man of God whom You sent come to us again and teach us what we shall do for the child who will be born.”

The responsibility of raising children in the fear of the Lord is one of the greatest tasks God has given to parents. When Manoah, Samson’s father, and his wife, learned they were going to be parents and that the son God was giving them had been chosen to be a great servant of God, they made the best decision.

They went to God and said, “Lord, teach us how to be parents. You know better than anyone on how we should raise our children, help us please.”

The wisest thing we can do as parents is approach the Creator of the universe who formed us in the womb and understands us perfectly, in Him there is divine wisdom.
What we need is a humble and open heart to listen to the direction the Lord has for us.

In Manoah’s prayer he specifically asked for two things for his son:

“Manoah said, “Now let Your words come to pass! What will be the
boy’s rule of life, and his work?” (Judges 13:12)

In other words, Lord, how can I shape my son’s character? 
And what is the purpose and mission you have for him?

So, how do we focus our prayer?

This passage helps us as parents to understand two of our greatest responsibilities. To raise children in the fear of the Lord is to focus on these two things:

i. Shaping our children’s character

ii. Helping them discover their purpose

May the Lord be our helper.
